An erster Stelle möchte ich einmal bei dem Verlag Tor bedanken, von denen ich Malice bei einem Gewinnspiel gewonnen habe. Mit Unterschrift des Autors!

Nun kam ich endlich mal dazu das Buch zu lesen.

Dieses Debüt von John Gwynne ist eine gute alte Fantasy Geschichte, die viele Tropen des Genres benutzt, diese aber trotzdem geschickt genug umsetzt um nicht all zu kopiert zu wirken. Die ganze Handlung und Welt wirken allerdings doch, als alles schon mal da gewesen und nur wenig Neues. Ich hatte am Anfang wirklich Schwierigkeiten mich in die Geschichte einzulesen. Die Hauptcharaktere waren mir überhaupt nicht sympathisch und es viel mir schwer mich für ihr Schicksal zu interessieren. Alle waren relativ jung und naiv und alles wirkte eher wie YA.

Der Trend liegt im Moment eher bei dunkler Fantasy, bei grauen Charakteren. Dies hier ist eher wohlfühl Fantasy, die natürlich auch ihren Platz hat, aber im Moment nicht mein Geschmack ist. Empfehlen würde ich es für jüngere Leser oder Fantasyeinsteiger, oder natürlich für Liebhaber dieser Art von Geschichten. Mit einer soliden Handlung und schönen Welt bietet es sicherlich gute Unterhaltung.
